Googly Trick or Treat

For most holidays I try to make the grandkids a card with some type of treat, this time it's Googly Eyes! When my six year old granddaughter was here a couple summers ago, we took her to the fish farm and she was allowed to pick out a prize...she chose some Googly Eye Glasses...

Cambria is into art, when she was here this summer, she LOVED the Ink Blending Tool! So for her birthday this year I thought I would set her up with a little kit for ink blending. Here are just a few of the goodies I ordered recently from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. In fact, the ribbon on the release tag came from a little thank you freebie which accompanied my order...so sweet!

Thanks for stopping by!

Shine Bright My Friend

TFJB Challenge Blog: Celebrate Friendship

Simon Says Stamp Monday: Sparkle and Shine

I have a good friend who is in a convalescent/rehab facility. She has had some serious medical problems for the past eight years, but recently fell and is confined to a rehabilitation center for the next six weeks. She is 71 years old but proclaims herself to be 'an Old Hippie Chick' who is, in her words, 'Still Standing'. She is a huge fan of my handmade cards and appreciates the personalized touch; she loves glitter, but I am not a fan so I compromised and used some Metallic Glitter Cardstock.

While I was creating the card with the Sparkle and Shine theme, the Pink Floyd song 'Shine on you crazy diamond' kept running through my head, it was in our genre, so I used it for the inside of the card.

I stamped the light bulbs from Professor 7 in Versamark ink and clear embossing powder, and then used the foam blender tool with Distress Ink, Iced Spruce and Rusty Hinge. I used the Thinlits Mixed Media set to die cut the harlequin pattern and inserted the glitter cardstock behind it. I stamped the Art-C Shine in black embossing powder and the Bright in white embossing powder, then the my friend (Stampendous Happy Messages) in black embossing powder. I then die cut two stars from the glitter cardstock. The sentiment inside the card is computer generated and then stamped with Skipping Stones Design Heartsong (retired)

1st Grade

The current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is 'Back To School'...not literally, but create a project using books, alphabets, anything that reminds you of learning...however, I took it quite literally! I've fallen behind in my scrapbooking and was inspired by my Granddaughter's first day of First Grade.

Cambria ( the one in pink) has been best friends with Ryan since preschool, even though they were in separate classrooms in Kindergarten and also this year in First Grade. I thought Cambria was tall for a six year old, but Ryan makes her look tiny! Cambria had not seen Ryan since school ended because her friend spent the summer out of state. Her cute little friend found her before school and presented Cambria with a sweet little necklace to celebrate the reunion! My son sent me the pictures and I couldn't resist using them for this challenge.

The bigger challenge was to create a 'funkie' scrapbook page for a very modern little girl...afraid I fell a little short in that area! I used Faded Type as the background, pulled out a really, really old transfer title (My Mind's Eye) from my hoarded stash, some alphabet stamps, and a couple of die cuts. Then I created a little journal card to slip inside for the details. I did make good use of my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform for this one!

Another challenge I was able to use for this project was Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Die Cuts. The little gold star charm is from Taylored Expressions, the heart and the file folder tab are from Cricut Cuttlebug Planner Embellishments Dies.

Inventor

Two challenges for this card...

The first: TFJB Challenge: Stamped With Love to use your favorite Tim Holtz stamps. Hard to choose a favorite, but The Inventor 7 is new and had not even been inked yet; I'm sure with my love of masculine cards and gears and such it is sure to be a favorite!

The second: Simon Says Stamp: Make your own background. The inside of the card probably fits this challenge better, since the front of the card is mainly using the stamp as the focal point rather than the background.

These are the stamps used to make the background. Faded Type (also Tim Holtz) is another set purchased recently that I loved but hadn't had a chance to use it much. Love it for the background! The 'Time is a companion' stamp is one of my all time favorites for birthdays, as is the Mini Blueprints.

Seaside Sunset

This is the first card I made for the current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, Chillin' in the Heat,to use warm colors or cool colors. I like the way this one turned out using warm colors, but when I tried to re-create it with cool colors, I just couldn't get it right, and changed direction completely (see yesterdays post)!

So I think I will send this one to my cousin for her birthday to remind her of the fabulous vacation we enjoyed on the Oregon Coast earlier this year, where we saw some gorgeous sunsets from the balcony of our condo. Maybe I'll try it with cool colors again later with the same design!

The 'Breathe' stamp is from Stampendous and is one of my favorites, but I don't have occasion to use it very often. The sea shell stamp is an oldie from Inkadinkado.

Way Cool

Last minute entry for the Monday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp, Fun With Stencils. I used this flourish design from Dreamweaver Stencils with some Texture Paste.  This stencil reminds me of crashing waves.  I chose it for a birthday card for a cousin who we were lucky enough to vacation with on the Oregon Coast with a fabulous view of the ocean, which reminds me, I'd better get it in the mail tomorrow!

I also had in mind the challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, Chillin'in the Heat...celebrate the end of summer with either a 'hot' design with warm colors or a 'cool' design with cool colors...Way Cool, right? The little tag is a die from Taylored Expressions, stamped with My Story, Everyday Life.

Scotch Irish

I've been super busy this past week and have my six year old grandaughter here to entertain so I almost gave up on this one...but when TFJB Challenge said 'Scotch it is', I thought about my mom telling me we were Irish and Scotch Irish...took me a while to figure out how to incorporate the subject into a project, but this is what I ended up with!   Down to the wire once again!

Keep moving!

Having three sons, only one daughter-in-law, and no sisters, I have the opportunity to make masculine birthday cards much more often than feminine ones. Also, middle son is turning 41 in about 10 days and enjoys riding his Harley in his spare time, so I thought the gauge dial was close to the speedometer/tachometer???  But I set the dial close to 41...his age this year!

The current challenge at TFJB Challenge Blog is Moving Parts. This gave me the opportunity to try out some of the goodies I received recently from The Funkie Junkie Boutique for being a random prize winner of the generous gift certificate! These are just a few of the items I chose!

I used the Mini Mechanics 3d Embossing Folder on a piece of black cardstock, added some Metallics Distress Crayons ( I love the Bronze!), created the Gauge Dial with the Gauge Frame, and added a Game Spinner heat embossed with some red embossing powder, and created the Enjoy the Journey tag on Kraft cardstock with Black Soot Distress Ink and some clear embossing powder.

I'm glad my son is coming to visit the day after his birthday so I don't have to send this baby through the mail!

Travel

This week's theme at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge , Let's Go On Vacation, was great motivation to create this travel themed thank you card. Our travel agent over the past several years has recently retired and we wanted to send her a thank you/gift card for all of her hard work, she made travel stress free.

I did some paper piecing with a couple of papers from 7 gypsies variety pack 'Lille' as well as some tags from some older stash. I then created the clasp closure using a 1/2" punch and a couple of eyelets and some twine.

The inside was created using the Stampendous Carte Postale stamp along with a cursive Thank You stamp.

The back of the card was a last minute addition using a retired Stampin'Up set Sentimental Journey.

Birthday Time

The current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is Stencil Mania...use at least three stencils...just in time for a birthday card for my daughter in law.

These are the three stencils I chose. I appreciate these challenges because it forces me to use some of the product that seems to get neglected. I decided to try a technique where you use kraft cardstock and  white ink through the stencil using a blending tool.

I also used the Tim Holtz Framelits w/ Stamps for the butterfly and watercolored it with Aged Mahogany, Fired Brick, and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

Thanks for the challenge!

Sweet Treats

Happy Easter to the Grandkids! I can't believe I didn't take more pictures of the process, other than I was trying to get them in the mail so they would arrive before Easter. The following pics at least show why I chose the colors for their 'tic tac' holders.

Industrial Grunge

The current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is 'Industrial Grunge'.  This was quite timely since my youngest has a birthday this week, and I really enjoy gears and such for masculine cards.

I used the Foundry 3-D embossing folder for the background, adding Black Soot Distress Paint to the embossed silver metallic paper.  I layered papers from the Ciao Bella 'Modern Times' 6x6 paper pad, and then stamped the heart gears from Technique Tuesday 'Love Makes the World Go Round'. I then added a library bookplate, some gears, and some silver number tiles.

Birthday Boy

My grandson will be 9 years old next week. This card seems a little young for a nine-year old, however, I was totally inspired by this cute little toy.  The background is the wrapping paper which accidentally matches the colors in the toy. I bought a pack of sixlets and used only the yellow (to mimic the little yellow foam balls in the toy) and filled a treat cup...and the other day he asked me why I always put candy in their cards...duh!

Anyhow, this fits for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge 'Anything Goes'.

Beautiful Birthday Butterfly

For my niece...as I was naming this post, it brought back a memory of when my niece was two years old and for her birthday she wanted a 'bootiful, bootiful, blue dress'.  She's going to be 31 years old next week and had I thought of it earlier, I would have put some blue in this card for her and reminded her of the 'bootiful, bootiful, blue dress'.

This week at Simon Says Stamp the Monday Challenge is to use Embossing Folders, I really like this 3-D folder from Tim Holtz and Sizzix.

Transport me to Paris!

This card is two-fold...we were supposed to cruise to London and Paris in 2020, then Covid happened, so we postponed till 2022...looks like we will probably cancel again, too many horror stories about people getting quarantined and about ports getting cancelled...maybe someday!

The second is because one of my best friends LOVES Paris, and her birthday is coming up.

Also two different challenges:

Old and new...The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge Blog (TFJB)

I used some really old stamps, Carte Postal, Paris in the Springtime, and Aged Gold Embossing Enamel from Stampendous, Insignia stamps from BasicGrey, (which I have had forever but just recently began using), and some new (to me) Tim Holtz Field Notes, Speckled Egg Distress Ink and Gathered Twigs for shading.
