Happy Totality Birthday

 In honor of my son's birthday coinciding with the Total Eclipse, I decided to create a birthday card commemorating both...even though we don't live in a state where it can be viewed this time around...

I used the stamp set Inventor 7 and the Gauge Frames by Tim Holtz. I also used an old Dymo Label Maker to create the date, and a retired Stampin'Up set, It's Your Birthday. I used a small circle punch, also Stampin'Up to create the sun.

 The sentiment inside is computer generated.

Industrial Grunge

 

 

The current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is 'Industrial Grunge'.  This was quite timely since my youngest has a birthday this week, and I really enjoy gears and such for masculine cards.

 

I used the Foundry 3-D embossing folder for the background, adding Black Soot Distress Paint to the embossed silver metallic paper.  I layered papers from the Ciao Bella 'Modern Times' 6x6 paper pad, and then stamped the heart gears from Technique Tuesday 'Love Makes the World Go Round'. I then added a library bookplate, some gears, and some silver number tiles.

Zero to Forty!

 Time flies! It's hard to believe my middle son will be forty years old in a couple of weeks! So I decided to make his birthday card around the current theme of  The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, 'Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters'...

I used some core Impressions: Timeless Collection ColorCore Cardstock from Graphic45, and some distress ink for the base, along with some Grungeboard from Tim Holtz, distressed with some Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder for the large wings, along with some Tim Holtz Timepieces and Game Spinners. The smaller wings are from my stash when a local store went out of business several years ago!

Jake is 30?

 Well, my baby boy is 30! Where does the time go? 

The design was inspired by the challenge Simon Says: Layer It.

 I layered paper from Modern Times by Ciao Bella 6x6 paper pad, created two small tags from the same collection, added a stencil '0' from the Tim Holtz Thinlits Gift Card Bag to the existing '3', added a piece of Tim Holtz Film Strip with a Mini Paper Clip, stamped a Happy Birthday sentiment to add to the Ornate Plate, a couple of Tim Holtz Reinforcers to the tags and some jute twine.

November Birthday

 My oldest (42) is a steampunk kind of guy who has always loved cats...

...and more recently, dogs.  His birthday is in November, so I dug out an old Farmers Almanac, salvaged from a public library sale, and found this awesome page to use as the background for his card...oddly enough, it talks all about cats!

So I used the Tim Holtz Mini Cats and Dogs along with the Clear Stamps/Things Talk for the party hats, present, and balloons.

The challenge this week is to 'Recycle' (create something previously used) at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.

Youngest son wants to go to Japan, and tomorrow is his birthday, so I wanted to make him a card incorporating a travel theme.

I used an embossing folder on some foiled paper and rubbed in some black distress paint to give it some definition.

Cutting it down to the wire for the challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.  'Don't be fooled, be foiled'.

Vintage Truck Inspiration

When I saw this amazing tutorial from Sara Emily Barker I just had to have the Lumber 3D Texture Fade embossing folder.  In trying to locate this particular tutorial I came across several other projects where Sara Emily used this folder, and all are quite amazing!

This particular card is for a nephew's birthday, and there was a vintage truck on the property where he grew up so I was inspired to use the Tim Holtz Clear Stamp set, The Journey.  I was in a bit of a hurry to get the card in the mail and feel I could have spent a little more time on the Lumber background, but I will definitely play with this folder again!

Birthday Number 26

The current challenge over at Frilly and Funkie is 'Count Me In', to use numbers in your project.  This fit in perfectly for my youngest son's birthday this week when I found a sheet from an old 6 x 6 paper pack by Cosmo Cricket, especially since he just turned 26!  The Jack Russell Terrier image is an old one I found through Stampers Best back in the days of Operation Write Home because we had the cutest little Jack Russell named Jesse. I thought the birthday cupcake image from Tim Holtz Mini Blueprints would tie in the birthday theme well.

In keeping with my recent trend, I turned it into an easel card.

Know you're gettin' old...

This is a birthday card I made to go with the challenge this week over at Simon Says Stamp 'At The Movies'.

When I read the theme, I immediately thought of the cute Charlie Chaplin stamp I purchased several years ago from Stampers Best.  The product showcased with this weeks theme is Spellbinders.  I thought about trying to make some gears look like an old film tin, then I thought of using the Deckled Rectangle die to imitate an old photograph. Then I began to think of a card I could use with that theme.  My oldest son is having a birthday soon and he's a non-traditional sort of guy...usually I try to add a Steampunk flair...but he does like black and he did purchase a vintage car at one point! So, I added the antique car from the Tim Holtz set, Visual Artistry, The Journey and the funny sentiment from Skipping Stones Design, You Know You're Gettin' Old Birthday set.  I hope he will enjoy his card and appreciate the time and thought that went into creating it...

All Lined Up - Birthday

It's been a busy year for my middle son...engagement, wedding, new baby, and his birthday in about 10 days...so I thought this piece of old scrapbook paper would fit perfectly for his birthday card this year as well as for the challenge at Frilly and Funkie - All Lined Up.

This challenge is to 'think in straight lines! Be it rows or columns, stripes or even grids'.  As always the Frilly and Funkie Team has some awesome inspiration for the challenge...pop on over for a visit.

Very, happy, birthday...

The current challenge at Frilly and Funkie is Boy oh Boy...in other words, create a masculine themed project. Having three adult sons, I do enjoy making cards for them with a more masculine theme in mind.  My middle son likes sports, but the oldest and youngest are more into the 'Steampunk' style.  The first two are big fans of cats (especially the oldest), so I chose this little image for a card for him.  The cat seems so studious I thought the dictionary words and text background would fit well.

Another Steampunk Birthday

 

My oldest son is a Steampunk kind of a guy...I hope he likes this birthday card as well as he liked the Steampunk Cat from last year!  He  also loves cats, but last summer we bought a solar powered owl to keep the pigeons off our deck, and when he saw it he said he just might need one for his garden...hopefully he'll remember.

Happy Cat

My son has a cat he adores...but he's the only one, even his wife doesn't like his cat!  This cat is as happy as can be when he can bring birds home, so I thought this combination of stamps was a fun birthday card for my son and also fit in with the challenge over at Papercraft Star Challenge 155.

Hi, it's Barb here, playing Stampendous BlogStar!

My oldest son has a birthday coming up and he is a bit of a non-traditional, Steampunk kind of guy...and loves cats...so I thought of him when I saw this Stampendous Cling Felinus.  "F.E. Linus, top-hatted kitty and Spectacle Maker is a skilled Lapidary on the side! That means he prepares raw stones for sale while grinding lenses for your vintage glasses. This astute fellow is the ninth in his line. Use him to create Fran•taáge greetings for your cat loving friends".

I started out sponging some distress ink on the edges of the buttery tan card stock. I then stamped  F. E. Linus with distress ink, and stamped the flourish from the Cling Jumbo Tulip set.  Then I played with the Fran•táge technique, using Aged Gold Embossing Enamel and Tarnished Mica Fragments.  And don't forget the sentiment...this came from Vintage Typewriter.  I stamped the paper image on a separate piece of light cream card stock and inked the edges, then stamped the 'happy birthday', slightly curving the clear stamps.  I attached the 'notes' and the metal clock embellishment with Beacon Zip Dry Paper Glue and then attached to a black card base.
