Spanish Sympathy

 

My sister-in-law is from Columbia, and her mother is very sweet and does not speak English. She recently lost her husband of 69 years, and my husband and I wanted to send her a special card. I speak very little Spanish, and have only one stamp set in Spanish for party invitations, so I looked up translator and printed a sentiment from my computer, 'With our deepest sympathy'. I would normally create a sympathy card with a butterfly or dragonfly, but wasn't sure if either was appropriate for someone from Columbia. I was excited to see the challenge from Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is for 'Beautiful Blooms'.

 A thank you to my sister-in-law for all she did for my husband's mother.

I love this Dragonfly Vine stamp from Stampendous and have used it several times in different designs for various occasions.

I was happy to see the challenge at TFJB Challenge Blog is 'Anything Goes' so I could share this card.

 

Jake is 30?

 Well, my baby boy is 30! Where does the time go? 

The design was inspired by the challenge Simon Says: Layer It.

 I layered paper from Modern Times by Ciao Bella 6x6 paper pad, created two small tags from the same collection, added a stencil '0' from the Tim Holtz Thinlits Gift Card Bag to the existing '3', added a piece of Tim Holtz Film Strip with a Mini Paper Clip, stamped a Happy Birthday sentiment to add to the Ornate Plate, a couple of Tim Holtz Reinforcers to the tags and some jute twine.

Hippie Birthday

 

I have a good friend who will turn 70 next week, and when I asked her for some clues for her card, she told me "Glitter, and I'm a hippie turning 70", I said, "that's a good start!" I very rarely do glitter, but I had some red Stickles, and some red glittered ribbon...good enough! I pulled out some old BoBunny Cardstock Stickers and some retired papers and stamps and went to work. I think she'll like it!

Celebrate

I used a 'retro' Dymo Label Maker for the CELEBRATE word strip...I'm going to have to see if I can find some black tape, I love the raised embossing. I also used the tiny Thinlits stencil dies from Tim Holtz Gift Card Bag for the hashtag and stars, and the Mini Blueprints, and Things clear stamps.

 

This CELEBRATE card will come with a VISA Gift Card for a 15 year old boy...I'm sure a 15 year old will love to celebrate with a credit card!

Home for the Holidays

 Well, I was going to post this to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

The challenge was 25 Days of Christmas Tags, but alas, the link closed early!

I am also posting this to the fun blog TFJB Challenge Blog.

The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge for this period is Home is Where the Heart is.

When I decided to make a tag instead of a card, the image from this stamp from Stampendous was too large, so I cut an oval with my die cutting machine for a template and then stamped inside the oval. I then used some gesso to make the first sentiment pop. I like the way the 'holidays' stamp shows up with embossing powder. I then die cut some greenery and pinecones from Tim Holtz Festive Greens, and added a sweet metal snowflake (from Funkie Junkie Boutique) and a little silver jingle bell and some ribbon dyed with Tim Holtz Rusty Hinge Distress Ink.

I got to play with some of my new distress inks and used my Texture Fades 3D Embossing Folder for this challenge at Simon Says Stamp-Monday Challenge

 This is for my son's birthday, and for his last birthday I used the same folder but it was a silver metallic look, so I wanted to change it up and make it a little more distressed. He's always been a bit of a Steampunk, Grunge kind of guy!
