Shine Bright My Friend

TFJB Challenge Blog: Celebrate Friendship

Simon Says Stamp Monday: Sparkle and Shine

I have a good friend who is in a convalescent/rehab facility. She has had some serious medical problems for the past eight years, but recently fell and is confined to a rehabilitation center for the next six weeks. She is 71 years old but proclaims herself to be 'an Old Hippie Chick' who is, in her words, 'Still Standing'. She is a huge fan of my handmade cards and appreciates the personalized touch; she loves glitter, but I am not a fan so I compromised and used some Metallic Glitter Cardstock.

While I was creating the card with the Sparkle and Shine theme, the Pink Floyd song 'Shine on you crazy diamond' kept running through my head, it was in our genre, so I used it for the inside of the card.

I stamped the light bulbs from Professor 7 in Versamark ink and clear embossing powder, and then used the foam blender tool with Distress Ink, Iced Spruce and Rusty Hinge. I used the Thinlits Mixed Media set to die cut the harlequin pattern and inserted the glitter cardstock behind it. I stamped the Art-C Shine in black embossing powder and the Bright in white embossing powder, then the my friend (Stampendous Happy Messages) in black embossing powder. I then die cut two stars from the glitter cardstock. The sentiment inside the card is computer generated and then stamped with Skipping Stones Design Heartsong (retired)

1st Grade

The current challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is 'Back To School'...not literally, but create a project using books, alphabets, anything that reminds you of learning...however, I took it quite literally! I've fallen behind in my scrapbooking and was inspired by my Granddaughter's first day of First Grade.

Cambria ( the one in pink) has been best friends with Ryan since preschool, even though they were in separate classrooms in Kindergarten and also this year in First Grade. I thought Cambria was tall for a six year old, but Ryan makes her look tiny! Cambria had not seen Ryan since school ended because her friend spent the summer out of state. Her cute little friend found her before school and presented Cambria with a sweet little necklace to celebrate the reunion! My son sent me the pictures and I couldn't resist using them for this challenge.

The bigger challenge was to create a 'funkie' scrapbook page for a very modern little girl...afraid I fell a little short in that area! I used Faded Type as the background, pulled out a really, really old transfer title (My Mind's Eye) from my hoarded stash, some alphabet stamps, and a couple of die cuts. Then I created a little journal card to slip inside for the details. I did make good use of my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform for this one!

Another challenge I was able to use for this project was Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Die Cuts. The little gold star charm is from Taylored Expressions, the heart and the file folder tab are from Cricut Cuttlebug Planner Embellishments Dies.

Inventor

Two challenges for this card...

The first: TFJB Challenge: Stamped With Love to use your favorite Tim Holtz stamps. Hard to choose a favorite, but The Inventor 7 is new and had not even been inked yet; I'm sure with my love of masculine cards and gears and such it is sure to be a favorite!

The second: Simon Says Stamp: Make your own background. The inside of the card probably fits this challenge better, since the front of the card is mainly using the stamp as the focal point rather than the background.

These are the stamps used to make the background. Faded Type (also Tim Holtz) is another set purchased recently that I loved but hadn't had a chance to use it much. Love it for the background! The 'Time is a companion' stamp is one of my all time favorites for birthdays, as is the Mini Blueprints.
